A wonderfully characterful antique figural chocolate mould depicting Father Christmas / Santa Claus, complete with his pointed hat, full beard and a rounded object held against his chest. The dimensional pressed-metal figure is framed by the original mould structure and fastening elements, giving the piece an especially sculptural, almost industrial quality.

Before mass-produced seasonal confectionery, dimensional metal forms like this were used by chocolatiers and confectioners to create hollow chocolate figures. The strongly modelled facial features, beard and clothing give this example a particularly expressive appearance, while generations of use have left the metal with a deep, beautifully mottled surface.
