An exceptionally sculptural solid wood box, carved into a flowing biomorphic form that blurs the line between functional storage and decorative art.

The body has been shaped from a substantial piece of timber, retaining expressive grain patterns, knots and tonal variations throughout. Rather than disguising the natural character of the material, the maker has incorporated it into the design. The result has a wonderfully tactile, almost architectural quality.

A fitted asymmetrical panel pivots outward on a wooden peg to reveal the hollowed interior compartment. When closed, the darker figured grain of the panel creates a striking contrast against the warmer surrounding timber and becomes part of the overall composition.

Its sweeping curves, irregular silhouette and hand-worked character give the piece a strong studio craft / organic modern sensibility. It feels particularly at home alongside ceramics, primitive objects, collected artworks and other pieces where material and craftsmanship take precedence over ornament.

Substantial at over 1.2 kg, this is not a lightweight souvenir box.
